Common questions
Straight answers. If yours isn't here, just ask.
I already have an accountant. Why do I need you?
They do a different job. Your accountant records what already happened and files your tax. I help you decide what to do next. Many clients keep their accountant and add me on top. If you'd rather have everything in one place, I can do both.
Why pay for this when my accountant charges £150?
Because you get a different result. £150 pays for filing. This pays for knowing three months ahead if you can afford a new hire. If filing is all you need, keep your accountant — I'll tell you so on the call.
What does it cost?
It depends on how much work there is. I'd rather give you an honest price than post a number that fits nobody. On a 20-minute call I look at what you need, then send a written proposal with one fixed price. You agree to it before we start, and it doesn't change while I work. No packages, and no paying for things you don't need.
Can you help me pay less tax?
Yes — in legal ways. I make sure you claim every cost you're allowed to, pay yourself in the smartest way, and plan ahead so there are no nasty surprises. I don't use risky tax schemes.
Is my business too small for a finance director?
Probably too small to hire one full-time. That's the whole point. If you turn over less than about £500k, you probably don't need a full finance director yet — and I'll tell you honestly. The tax and bookkeeping option may still suit you.
Why is one point of contact better?
I often see businesses with an accountant who only does the filing, plus a separate person inside the company who looks after the finances. Things get lost between them, and nobody sees the whole picture. With me, one person knows your whole business — books, tax and planning — and you only ever have to ask one person.
My books are a mess. Is that a problem?
No, that's the normal starting point. Clean-up work is priced separately once I see how big it is.
Do we have to meet in person?
No. Everything works online across the UK. If you're in London and prefer to meet, that's fine too.
